Description

The current building goes back up largely to the XVth century and replaced a Romanic church (XIth century) some tracks of which are still visible in the choir. Big works begin between 1855 and 1862: the nave of the Church is prolonged about five meters westward whereas the former bell tower is defused. The architects Bossan (the designer of the basilica of Fourvière of Lyon) and Leo conceives a new facade and the bell tower which surmounts it in a very decorated neogothic style. A forézien cabinet maker, Ennemond Magat, sculptures the triumph gate on which is represented the litanies of the Virgo. In the bell tower, at the level of the clock, the statues of Jacquemard and his wife strike the hours. They are reproductions of wooden works colored originals of which are kept to the Museum of archaeology.
